after the "loss" of my favorite restaurant, Jang Su Jang (shout out to Kim!!), i had to find a replacement. unfortunately, this has been a pretty hard task. there is no where currently that i enjoy as much as the Old Jang Su Jang.
i've recently had to settle (for now) for a restaurant named So Gong Dong. they used to be located on the block that is now occupied by the huge Nordstrom extension at Ala Moana. yes, to build that monstrous building, they had to knock out/relocate/close several small businesses in that area. So Gong Dong was one of the restaurants that had to relocate.
i remember passing by when it was next to Ala Moana, and seeing a huge line spilling out of the door. i thought - wow, that place MUST BE good.
i didnt get a chance to eat there at the time, but did eat at the restaurants new location in McCully shopping center.
i have been to this restaurant several times, and its been kind of a mix of good and bad. some dishes are great, some are just so-so, and others are crap. it really depends on what you order here.....
so far, the meat jun is so-so, the soon du bu is good, the seafood pancake is great, the duk boki is so-so and the yukejang (pictured) is pretty awesome - HOWEVER, i have also found, the food differs in taste depending on who is cooking :(
while i had this awesome yukejang one night, on another night it was simply o.k.verdict? - while i do happen to frequent this restaurant now, i will not stop my search for a good all around korean restaurant. i need a place where ALL the dishes are good - not just a handful. THE SEARCH CONTINUES!!!

i give you props for always trying new stuff. im too much of a wimp...ill pick off someones plate. but id never order something brand new..
