i love chestnuts. especially when they are fresh roasted. they are just simply the best. they take on this slightly smoky flavor that is so divine..... the only pain-in-the-ass part is peeling them. sometimes you get a loose one that just pops out of the shell, but most of the time you have to peel off the shell to get to the treasure inside.
its not as easy as i thought to get fresh roasted chestnuts.... in fact the only place i get mine from is Shirokiya, upstairs. there is a woman who stands there roasting and bagging the nuts. when they're warm, they're so good.

this one was one of those easy peel ones... its great when you can get a whole nut out. its so much more satisfying. lovely!
